Marty LaConte

“My life’s work was being an RN in Obstetrics. After retirement, I get to satisfy my creative side with my work for the Ohio Shakespeare Festival.”

“I work for the Ohio Shakespeare Festival throughout the whole year. I began working with this professional theater troupe six years ago. We do indoor productions in Greystone Hall from Sept. through May, and in the summer, we do outdoor events on the grounds of historic Stan Hywet estate in Akron, Ohio. We begin production of the next show as soon as we have one that goes live, so there is a continual need for creative pieces.  We usually perform Shakespearean works, when  I have made many crowns, and armor. Then there are times when a more contemporary show is done when I am making more unique pieces. “

“Rather than just sewing costumes exclusively, I also get to let my creativity run wild by making specialty props and costumes. That is where Wonderflex and Fosshape take center stage. These two products have allowed me to make anything that the director requests; and sometimes it can be very challenging. “I love working with Fosshape and wonderflex. I have multiple pieces that I have made with those as the primary medium and also some pieces that used Fosshape and wonderflex for enhancement.”

“I have not had any official training in art. My mother was artistic and my father had a very creative mind who could fix anything. He could jerry-rig all sorts of things to make it more efficient. I am one of nine children who grew up on a small farm in rural Ohio. So if we wanted something we needed to figure out how to make it, since running to the store was not an option.”

“St. Joan of Arc”

Using the base of a construction helmet, and a motocross chest protector, Wonderflex and Fosshape add enhancements to make armor for St. Joan of Arc.

“King Charles III”

This play is based on the modern day British royal family, so I made a true scale King Edward crown , orb, and scepter. Fosshape and Wonderflex added the details to make it royal.

 “She Kills Monsters”

Is based on the game Dungeons and Dragons.  At the end of the play, the heroine has to battle the 5 headed dragon Tiamat. That required my construction of the five dragon helmets.

I would say that the five-headed dragon, tiamat, was the most challenging as well as the most satisfying costume I made with the shape and wonderflex. It would never have been possible without your wonderful products.
